In a world that often measures worth by performance and achievement, the message of grace stands out as a radical truth. This week, Pastor Eddy led us through Galatians 3, reminding us that true freedom and blessing come not from our own efforts, but through faith in Jesus Christ.
The apostle Paul points us back to Abraham, a figure revered by both Jews and Gentiles. Abraham's righteousness wasn't earned through perfect obedience; it was credited to him because he "believed God" (Galatians 3:6). This foundational truth reveals that faith, not works, is the key to being made right with God.
Like Abraham, we are called to believe. We are invited to trust in God's promises, even when they seem impossible. This faith makes us sons and daughters of Abraham, inheritors of his blessings.
Paul doesn't shy away from the stark reality of the law. He declares that those who rely on works of the law are under a curse (Galatians 3:10). Why? Because the law demands perfect obedience, something no human can achieve.
Trying to earn salvation through the law is like climbing a mountain with no summit. It leads to frustration, despair, and ultimately, condemnation. The law reveals our sinfulness and our inability to save ourselves.
Thankfully, God provided a way out of this impossible situation. Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, took our place. He became a curse for us, bearing the weight of our sins on the cross (Galatians 3:13).
Through His sacrifice, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, freeing us from its condemnation. He made it possible for us to receive the blessings promised to Abraham and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Eddy's message was a powerful invitation: "Do you want to be free from the curse of the law? Come to Christ! Do you want the blessing of Abraham? Come to Christ! Do you want the gift of the Holy Spirit? Then come to Christ!"
These questions echo the heart of the Gospel. Jesus is the answer to our deepest needs. He offers freedom, blessing, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to all who believe.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of faith. Thank you for sending Jesus to redeem us from the curse of the law. Help us to trust in His sacrifice and to receive the blessings you have promised. Fill us with your Holy Spirit and empower us to live a life that honors you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree'—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith." - Galatians 3:13-14 (ESV)
